Some individuals have a challenge understanding the concept
of quantity.
They will perhaps not be able to understand the concept that
different groups have a number representing the number of
objects in the group. For example 3 books is the same group
quantity as 3 chairs.
They can also fail to understand that an abstract group has
a number attached to it. For example 3 ideas or 3 wishes.
The Moving Numeracy program is based on the
importance of movement and an awareness of specific cognitive
development. Providing techniques to help deal with:
Number as Quantity
Arithmetical Operations: add, subtract, multiply,
divide
Place value/fractions/decimals
Setting out arithmetical sums on paper
Organizing and Sequencing Skills
Understanding the method
This approach assists individuals to develop self
esteem and coping strategies, enabling them to manage
mathematics in daily life.
